Strengthening Process Safety and Design Integrity for Nigeria’s Growing Gas Infrastructure

TOMSEY Engineering & Services International Ltd is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) Studies for Pillar Oil Limited’s Gas Delivery Pipeline Project located in Kwale, Delta State, Nigeria.

This milestone reflects TOMSEY’s continued commitment to delivering world-class Process Safety and Technical Safety services that support safe, reliable, and regulatory-compliant energy infrastructure projects across the country.

The Gas Delivery Pipeline Project involves the installation of a 4.4-kilometre, 6-inch gas pipeline connecting the Umuseti Production Facility (UPF) to the proposed Phoenix Gas Processing Plant (PGPP).

Designed to transport up to 25 million standard cubic feet per day (25 MMSCFD) of associated and non-associated gas, the project is a significant step towards enhancing domestic gas utilization while supporting Pillar Oil Limited’s commitment to eliminating routine gas flaring and meeting domestic gas supply obligations.

As Nigeria continues to drive energy transition initiatives and gas commercialization programmes, projects such as this play a critical role in ensuring sustainable energy development and environmental stewardship.

Delivering Comprehensive Process Safety Reviews

To support the safe execution of the project, TOMSEY facilitated structured HAZID and HAZOP workshops involving multidisciplinary teams and key project stakeholders.

The studies were conducted to systematically identify potential hazards, evaluate operational and process risks, and assess the adequacy of existing safeguards within the project design.

Through detailed reviews and collaborative discussions, potential risks associated with the pipeline system, operational activities, and process interfaces were identified and analyzed. Practical and fit-for-purpose recommendations were developed to enhance process safety, strengthen design integrity, improve operability, and support compliance with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.

The outcome of these studies provides a strong foundation for safer project execution and long-term operational reliability.
